Design

What I Envision

I envision a website that is both rustic and elegant, and aesthetically pleasing. The design will reflect colors, textures and images commonly associated with a steakhouse, without being overdone or a caricature (exaggerated to the point of being comical). Anytime feasible, real photos taken of the steakhouse and its products will be used instead of stock photos. The website photos and content will give insight into not only the steakhouse itself, but will promote an associated venture (Potter Creek Outfitters) and local attractions.

Layout Choices

  • The site will be a multi-page site rather than a one-page site
  • The navbar will be fixed (attached to the top and visible during scrolling), with no logo (or a placeholder that is the same color as the navbar, because back-to-top button will not appear without a logo in place)
  • Links on the navbar will primarily link to additional pages or external websites/documents, rather than sections of the homepage (usually done when a one-page site)
  • Preferably, external links should open in a new window

DRY and Updates

As often as possible, the website will adhere to the DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) principle.

  • Info and elements such as buttons will be repeated the fewest times possible in order to minimize updates
  • Attractive evergreen content will be used. Non-evergreen content will be isolated to specific areas of the website so that updates will be as painless as possible for non-techies
  • The website layout will have a logical flow

Priority Info

Priority info is the info believed to be most important to and most commonly sought out by users and therefore made easily accessible to them.

  • Contact and location info: hours, telephone number, email address, physical address
  • Weekly specials
  • Menu

Responsiveness and Mobile Optimization

  • The website will be responsive (layout adapts to browser size)
  • The website layout and elements will be optimized for mobile
  • In the event of a tradeoff, priority will be given to newer devices and popular devices
  • Every effort will be made to meet accessibility standards
